Our Garden Mosaics activities

Dear friends,

Hello! In this message we want to tell you about our Garden Mosaics activities. By the time we have explored the garden, which is situated near our school. We were interested in this garden, because it was founded by a teacher of our gymnasium. It is a very small and terrific garden. You will see its photos in our future messages.

There are a lot of parks in our town: Lagerny garden, University grove, State garden, Michailovskaya grove, Buff garden, and others. We have total about 45 gardens and parks in our town. Every person in our town can relax there and enjoy fresh air and natural beauty.

Many inhabitants of Tomsk have private garden sites out of town, on which they grow vegetables: potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers and others. Near our gymnasium there is a park, which is called “White Lake”(we will tell you about it next week). It is one of the most favorite places of inhabitants of Tomsk, in which there are a lot of trees, bushes and beds of flowers. The park is situated around the lake.

We are interested to learn a lot of interesting things about our gardens and environment through Neighborhood Exploration, Gardener Story, and Community Garden Inventory – which we are planning to conduct these weeks.

    Now that you have written about Tomsk and how beautiful it is, I really want to visit. I am interested in the "green spaces" in your city. How do the gardens differ from the parks? Do you have a botanical garden? Do you have walking paths along the river? What are some of the different kinds of parks?

    Do you ever learn about science outdoors?

    Best wishes from Ithaca New York--home of many beautiful gorges and waterfalls, and surrounded by farms and forest.

    Thank you for your letter.
    Yes, we have a botanical garden. It's one of the most famous botanical gardens in Russia.
    We'll write more informaion about it in the next letter.
    Yes, we have walking pathes along the river. It's very popular place for walking, because in some places it's very beautiful. It's located on very high terraces and it has wonderful view on the valley of the Tom river.
    We'll tell you about gardens and parks in the next letter, but generally parks are always city-owned and gardens can be private.
    Our learning outdoors often includes
    some practice. But it's more interesting for us to have science
    works: we choose some topic and explore it.
